O-Toso set is a Sake pot called Choshi and three sized small cups called Sakazuki.
The O-Toso set is used in various ceremonies but indispensable part of the New Years in Japan. The O-Toso is a custom in which to drink Sake to flush away the previous year's maladies and to bring good health for the year and aspire to lead a long life.
The lacquer ware produced in Fukui prefecture is called Echizen-nuri.
This Echizen-nuri lacquer ware is drawn very delicate pine leaves with a technique called Chinkin(沈金) . First the craftsman carves a picture on the lacquered surface with a sharp chisel, then he puts gold leaf or gold dust. O-Toso set(one–of–a–kind item)
